Summary Describes how preservice teachers of the Deaf are taught to incorporate ASL and various forms of contrived signed English as effective communication tools in response to the diverse linguistic needs of students who are deaf and hard of hearing. The framework guiding this study is built on curriculum theory with emphasis on eight curricular areas: recommended, written, supported, taught, tested, learned, hidden and excluded curricula.
