Summary The papers of the California Democratic State Central Committee document the work of the Democratic Party within the state of California predominately in the 1960s. Some materials are from related organizations such as the California Democratic Council, the Democratic National Committee, and Democratic Associates, Inc. A small selection of materials from conservative and Republican groups is also included.
Note The California Democratic State Central Committee (CDSCC) coordinates all Democratic Party activities in the State. It was created to "further the progress of the Democratic Party within California. Its purpose was to conduct campaigns for national, state and county candidates, to cooperate with Democratic Party organization within the state, and to publicize and promote policies of the Democratic Party." Its work included fund raising for national, state and county elections; disseminating literature on election campaigns and legislative issues, coordinating volunteer efforts and maintaining a state headquarters for the party. The CDSCC has been in existence since at least 1928 and was responsible for establishing the California Democratic Council (CDC) in 1953, an important grassroots organization comprised of nearly 500 local political clubs which support and endorse local democratic candidates during election years.
